The 2020 Career Ladder numbering system was used to allocate car numbers to all teams at the beginning of the 2020 Career Ladder season, generally carrying on from the system introduced in 2015, but now expanding to two blocks of 2-99, as a result of the introduciton of Superleague Lights.

Rules

  • All numbers allocations are recognised inside their respective Blocks only; e.g. number allocations in Superleague and Superleague Lights are exclusive from number allocations in Supercup and Formula Challenge.
  • All teams remaining in their respective Blocks from the previous year have the right to retain their existing numbers, and cannot have their numbers claimed by any other team in the same Block.
  • Any team looking to claim new numbers have their choices prioritised by the following categories, then by their respective finishing orders in the previous years' championships:
  1. Existing teams
  2. Promoted teams
  3. Demoted teams
  4. Teams promoted/demoted into Block
  5. New/returning teams
  • Teams promoted or demoted into a Block enter a separate number pool to the previous year. Ergo, they lose their rights to numbers they held in the Block they raced in the year before, and have to bid for ALL their numbers from scratch.

Number changes

In addition to the numbers assigned to the new Career Ladder teams, several existing teams swapped their numbers for 2019 while others moved from Block 2 to Block 1; and vice versa; resulting in them having to bid once again for their numbers.

Block changes

The following teams were promoted, or demoted into their respective Blocks for 2020 and therefore lost their right to reserve their numbers from 2019. Those numbers are displayed below for reference only.

The teams are ranked in the order their finished in their previous championship, as well as the order in which priority will be given. All promoted teams will compete in the Superleague Lights in 2020, having previously competed in Supercup, with the exception of mouseOne Racing which competed in Formula Challenge. Of those demoted, Satellite Racing has gone from the Superleague Lights to Supercup, while Storm Racing has gone from the Superleague down to Formula Challenge.

Numbers marked in bold italics indicate numbers that were ultimately kept by the team in 2020. [Still subject to change]
