The GPVWC Forums are an important part of the GPVWC, as they allow communication/discussion between members.

History

Early (Pre-2008)

To be added

Freeforums.org (2008-2010)

On the 19th of March 2008, William Ponissi registered with the forum host site, FreeForums.org

That forum was a modified version of phpBB v3.0.6. In mid-2010, it began to be overrun by spambots

It was abandoned completely just before the new year of 2011

This version was deactivated by FreeForums.org due to in-activity in late 2011 and all posts were lost.

GPVWC.com (2010-Present)

Sometime in November 2010, William Ponissi and Michelangelo Manrique installed phpBB v3.0.7-PL1 on the GPVWC.com website. During that time it was used for talks about the GPO Merger. When the merger was cancelled, it fell unused until William had the idea of transferring to it. So on the 17th of December 2010, the current GPVWC Forum was launched, and the old one was locked on the 10th of January.

Management

Currently, the managers of the forum are William Ponissi and Luke McKee. Luke Handles most forum work, allowing Will to concentrate on other league related work.

Styling

Luke McKee created a full theme for the GPVWC Forums, based on the backend of the AeroBlue phpBB theme and the styling of Michelangelo Manrique's 2010 GPVWC site. He plans to redesign it in the future using a div and ul based design, for faster loading times.

Features

For a list of default forum features, see the phpBB Project Features page. (note: Not all features listed there are enabled on the GPVWC Forum.)

Reputation System

Designed from scratch by Luke McKee, the reputation system is a simple addition to each user's mini-profile (on the viewtopic pages only, for now). It allows users of the forum to give or take another user's reputation or 'Rep' once every four hours. An example of usage would be if someone made a good or bad post. A user's rep can go into the negative numbers as Tom Parker and David Jundt demonstrated. In March 2012, the ability to go into negative rep was disabled. In April 2012, after certain members showed that they were too immature and it was decided that the rep system should be removed.
