Giuseppe Rainieri is an Italian simracer currently competing in the Superleague and is also the reigning Supercup champion. He currently drives for Kernow Sport, having started the season for Midnight Motorsport.

GPVWC career

Rainieri joined the GPVWC after the start of the 2013 season but immediately took the series by force. Finishing on the podium in Spain at only his second race, Rainieri went on to win at his 6th race in Turkey; from that point one the Italian went on to win all but two of the remaining rounds; the two he missed out on he finished second in.

Rainieri therefore took the driver's championship with 298 points to Oscar Hardwick's 267.

For 2014 Rainieri moved up into the Superleague, full-time, having previously made a one-off appearance for Nijo Racing at the 2013 Italian Grand Prix, in which he finished second. Amid much excitement, Rainieri was signed by reigning Superleague Constructors' champions Midnight Motorsport as their #2 driver. When reigning champion driver Lukas Euler withdrew from competing, Rainieri was effectively promoted to team-leader.

In the first few races, Rainieri was right on the pace, finishing third at Australia right behind David Fidock of CSG Racing. Rainieri followed this by a 4th and another 3rd-place finish before finally winning his first Superleague race at China in a race where he also took pole and fastest lap. Rainieri then repeated this success at Spain and looked set to be the main driver taking the fight to the two otherwise-dominant CSG drivers, Fidock and Lewis Redshaw. Following Spain, Rainieri was only two points off the lead of the championship, but then suffered a double retirement at Monaco and Canada, the latter of which saw him suffer a catastrophic disconnection when he looked on the verge of challenging CSG once again.

Worse was to follow however, when at the following round at Austria, Rainieri, who was leading at the time with around 11 laps to go, was deemed to have forced Redshaw clean off the road whilst trying to defend his position. Rainieri went on to win the race, but was subsequently handed a 5-second post-race penalty which saw his victory handed to Redshaw instead, much to Rainieri's anger. This led to an unpleasant exchange of views within the team and resulted in Rainieri leaving Midnight.

Rainieri, his undoubted skills as a driver still very much in demand, found a seat at Kernow Sport for the subsequent round at Silverstone. However, now in an inferior car, his quest for the driver's crown now looks much more difficult.
