What is Optimum SimRacing?

Optimum SimRacing is an English GPVWC constructor who race all across the simracing scene in Touring Cars, Endurance Racing and Open Wheel Racing.

Optimum SimRacing was founded on 23rd December 2011 in preperation for a 24Hr Endurance Race. There was only 3 members at first, Jonatan Acerclinth, Jonathan Motteram and Bradley Vanian. All 3 drivers had interest in touring car racing aswell as Endurance Racing so the team entered into many Touring Car Leagues. In doing so, the team expanded. As the team grew bigger, the commitment increased. In 2012, the team had some great results in the world's biggest Touring Car Leagues aswell as a large amount of publicity around the SimRacing Community after they joined the Sim Racing Teams Facebook community
.

In August 2012, the team ventured into Open Wheel racing by applying for the GPVWC 2012 Formula Challenge.

2012 Formula Challenge

Optimum SimRacing's first adventure of Open Wheel Racing was in the 2012 Formula Challenge season. The team fielded Bradley Vanian and Alejandro Fernandez as drivers for the final 3 rounds of the season to prepare the team for 2013 which the team plan to enter on a full-time basis.

The opening round for the team was at Mondello Park and with some help from Jonatan Acerclinth, the team had a strong setup which gave both drivers a great sum of points on their debut. Bradley got a Top 10 finish in the Feature Race and Alejandro managed to get a double points finish.

The next round was at Charade and again, Bradley got a Top 10, meanwhile Alejandro got a double points finish again. Unluckily for the team, neither could capitalize on the reverse grid for the Sprint Race due to accidents.

The final round was a home round for Alejandro Fernandez however due to multiple unfortunate incidents, he was unable to capitalize. This was not the circumstance for Bradley though who finished 8th in Race 1 and 5th in the Sprint Race.

Even though the team only took part in the final 3 rounds, they finished 19th place in the Constructors and Bradley and Alejandro finished 32nd and 46th respectively in the drivers' standings.

2012 Winter GT Series

Optimum SimRacing entered the 2012 Winter GT Series with Jonathan Motteram and Jonatan Acerclinth. However, a week before the opening round, Jonathan had new commitments and the team quickly found Belgian Driver, Dimitri Demeulemeester to replace him. Both drivers used Lotus Evora's for the opening round.

In the opening round, Jonatan was unfortunate and got involved in a 1st lap accident meanwhile Dimitri was fighting just outside the Top 10 before he was involved in a collision which gave him major damage. After an unexpected pitstop, Dimitri finished 18th and Jonatan finished 23rd. Round 2 was at Spa Francorchamps and the round was even worse for the team. Before the race even got going, Dimitri had race ending damage as he and other cars started to accelerate at the end of the formation lap. Jonatan was also involved in an incident before the race started meant he had to pit straight away. Jonatan was able to finish in 19th place but the team still had no points.

Fuji presented a chance for the team to rectify the problems and collect their first points. Dimitri had a great qualifying session and was able to avoid a Lap 1 collision. Jonatan also avoided the opening lap chaos and both drivers drove brilliantly with Dimitri finishing 8th and Jonatan finishing 12th.

In the final round of the season, Dimitri had a great race and finished 5th however he was pressuring 4th position for most of the race. For Jonatan, it wasn't as good as he started the race late and was a lap down however he finished the race in 16th position.

2013 Formula Challenge

Optimum SimRacing fielded Bradley Vanian and Scott Sovik as their Primary drivers for the 2013 Formula Challenge season however due to technical problems, Bradley was unable to compete and therefore, the team replaced him with Dutch driver, Wopke Hoekstra.

At the opening event of the season, Wopke Hoekstra had major problems during qualifying meaning he started near the back for Race 1, meanwhile Scott was in the mid-field. During the race, both drivers were able to move through the field with Wopke completing a mighty comeback, finishing in 10th position. Scott was on course to finish in 16th, just outside the points however he was able to take 15th at the line, meaning he was on pole for the second race.

As the lights went out, Scott had a good start and kept the lead meanwhile Wopke was fighting around the Top 5. Scott quickly lost the lead and as Wopke moved up to 3rd, Scott let his teammate past, allowing Hoekstra to close down the leader. A few laps later, Wopke took the lead as Erik Tveit the leader spun, meanwhile Scott dropped down to 6th after a couple of mistakes. In the second half of the race, Wopke was being caught up from the cars behind but as the 2nd and 3rd placed cars battled it out, this allowed Wopke to keep a steady gap and take Optimum SimRacing's first win in GPVWC and the team's best achievement overall. Scott also had a great race, finishing in 6th. The double points finishes for both drivers meant the team were placed 2nd in the team standings after Australia.
