Rob Mason is a British sim-racer who currently drives for Epic Racing in the 2015 World Sport Series season.

Early Sim-Racing Career

Mason started sim-racing in 2008 at the now defunct Syncro Racing with mixed success, but wrapping up two championships in the Audi R8 Cup and the Lotus Cortina series. Following a sabbatical from sim-racing while concentrating on studies, Mason returned to touring car racing at WSVR in 2013. Following the sabbatical, Mason has returned a better driver, taking more race wins and poles than before. 2014 saw a shift in focus to take in a broader range of series, which lead to the start of a career at GPVWC.

History

World Sports Series

Mason was snapped up by Cosmo Autosport for the 2014 World Sport Series season to make his debut at GPVWC alongside Cameron Brewster. A mixed season followed with points few and far between, with Rob consistently being just outside the points. The contribution alongside Brewster did help Cosmo achieve 9th Place in the Teams Championship. In 2015, Mason drove for Epic, this time alongside Tom Parker, but dropped out of this role to focus on the increased Formula Challenge commitments.

International Touring Cup

The series that could of marked Mason as a force in touring cars with YTF1 at GPVWC was marred by business commitments resulting in missed races. Some flashes of speed belied general inexperience in the cars. A low points haul marked a disappointing season.

Formula Challenge

Off the back of the ITC drive with YTF1, Mason took up a reserve driver role with the team. This resulted in a surprising number of appearances, and despite a marked improvement as the year progressed presented few points scoring opportunities. In 2015, Mason signed as a reserve driver for Epic Racing, few outings were expected but a long term tie in to a team should help driver development. Initially called upon for Turkey, Monaco, Canada, Silverstone and Hungary (including an outing for Downforce iZone Racing), the reserve role changed to a full time seat from Monza on-wards as Wopke Hoekstra moved up to Supercup. A surprising consistency and pace has seen Mason pick up regular points finishes so far, including an 8th place at Silverstone.

Open Series

A debut at Sepang showed an initial lack of speed in these open wheel cars, but steady work saw Mason improve. The highlight of the year was a pole to flag victory at Monaco. Brief appearances yielded average results before a further pole followed at Brazil but the race was red flagged at half distance. Mason started 2015 with the intention of competing in the 2015 Open Series season, unless called into action for Epic Racing in the Formula Challenge.

2016

2016 marked a new chapter for Rob Mason, as he started his own team RPM Racing. Alongside this, Epic retained his services for Formula Challenge. Teamed with Geoffrey Fournier for the first forays into rFactor 2, Mason has set his eyes on regular Top 15 finishes. Later that year, he also started for STAX Racing in the 2016 International Touring Cup.
