Been going through the archives with Wayback Machine again and I've found a few pages from both the original GPVWC site and it's successor, as well as a few team sites relating to 2001. Although the season was cut short there's surprisingly a lot of stuff relating to 2001 and so hopefully it can fill in a few gaps.

Seems they tweaked the points system for 2001 with the top 11 scoring - 20,16,13,10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 plus 1pt for pole and 1pt for fastest lap.

I have to say that Arela site is a real find - not only is it still live after 10 years, it also contains some race images that I'll upload to the wiki shortly. :) --Chris williamson 10:11, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Fantastic stuff Chris. Arela's website wasn't working properly for me, but I loaded it up in Internet Explorer and stuck on 'compatibility mode' and hey presto, the menu links worked! We need to confirm the points systems for 2002 onward now. I seem to remember 2002 had a point for fastest lap and pole also, but the points were... more stingy than the previous two years. --Mal McKee 22:30, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

OK, according to the Arela website, it looks as though there were three more races in 2001 than the three we have. And I do seem to remember people like Hagarty featuring more strongly. San Marino was either cancelled, or Arela didn't update the website for the race event. Unfortunately Arela's results only seem to feature the top 6 drivers (plus their own). --Mal McKee 23:22, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Not sure where you're getting three extra races from Mal - I only see the three we have plus Imola. However I notice now that there's a press report on the Arela site on the 13th of April about Imola qualifying and then one on 16th of April saying the league had folded, so presumably the s**t hit the fan just between qualifying and the race. After that the team mentions joining a league called GPTC which seems to have been formed by several GPVWC people of the time.
Not sure what the points system was for 2002, but I can confirm that 2003 (and presumably subsequent seasons) adopted the F1 style 10-8-6-4-3-2-1 without bonus points. --Chris williamson 23:43, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
OK I had another look, and noticed this sentence: "I was particularly impressed with the new Supertech engine we are using. Its torque is far better than the Audi we used in the GPVWC." for the Monaco race they had listed there. So that would seem to verify things. Plus there was no race report for the San Marino race, which was due on the 16th.

I didn't notice the press report about the closing of the GPVWC, but I can tell you that both myself and Ollie had joined the GPTC. It was run by Chaz Charlton.
I had thought we used one year of the (top 6) 10-6-4-3-2-1 points system. I think the other years were top 8, so 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. --Mal McKee 03:59, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
