Early Years

I was already interested in racing when I was very young. I remember me playing Grand Prix 2 with my dad on our old Pentium computer, my interest in (sim) racing basically started there. After running through Grand Prix 3 and 4, we switched to Sports Car GT, which was quite brilliant at the time. Somewhere around 2000 we got Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel, which I consider as my first wheel. It managed for quite a long time. When I was 16, I got a Logitech G25 for my birthday, which really got me into online simracing for the first time. I started with GTR2, practicing the Nordschleife and racing against AI. For online racing I switched to rFactor. I started racing at F1-S-R, a very nice bunch of guys who later developed the well-known F1 1991 HE, LE and F1 1993 mods.

After a few years I switched to the Formula Simracing (FSR) League and was asked to compete for GhostSpeed Racing Team in the 2011 & 2012 World Trophy League. Mark Aalberts as my teammate. Racing there was an awesome experience, really enjoyed the level of competition and the organisation. Unfortunately I was also at an age where real life gets more and more important, which means less time for simracing. I met my girlfriend, and had to spend a lot of time to finish my study. As a result of that I had to stop simracing at FSR after 2 seasons.

After a few years of only doing a few laps every now and then I was asked by a friend to join in the Virtual Endurance Championship (VEC), competing in the LMP2 class with Eco Friendly Racing. Endurance was completely new to me but it was an awesome experience to do stints of 4 hours. Simracing can be really exhausting! We even managed to win the Season 7 Championship! My Logitech G25 was clearly not used anymore to racing for that long and decided to retire completely from racing. My current wheel is a Thrustmaster T300 RS + G25 pedals which is definitely a step up.

Unfortunately the team would not be competing in the 2015 season so I went looking for a different league. I quickly ended up at registering at GPVWC and was offered a seat at Armaroli Racing. My first race was the World GT race at Silverstone where I scored a P3 in qualifying. The race went very well to until I got a screen freeze! It was a very encouraging first race though so I’m really looking forward to my future at GPVWC!

2015

Tjeerd joins Armaroli Racing Team alongside Bret Metcalf in the 2015 World GT Series. He first race will on Silverstone awarded him a P3 in Quali. Unfortunately he got disconnected! He will remain as driver for the 2016 season.
