After the recent announcement that Williamson Dynamics stalwart, Marco Vandenbroeck, will be leaving the team to restart Yellowbirds, the Belgian team recently admitted to the GPVWC ranks, there has been speculation about Williamson Dynamics ability to replace the veteran racer in-time for the season opener later this month. Many within the team voiced concerns that the team may be unable to fulfill it's commitment to field two cars and may also lose out on vital testing miles.

Today, however, has seen the announcement of a new signing after closed door negotiations behind the scenes. The team's press office, sent out word that a big name signing was imminent. After a contract signing at Spa, Belgium, the eponymous home of the Williamson Dynamics Motorsport Design Syndicate, the new team member was whisked away to make it to South Africa ahead of tomorrow's final pre-season test at Kyalami.

For a team previously touted in sim racing media as 'The Jordan Grand Prix of Sim Racing', this operation was conducted with almost genuine modesty and discretion. Lacking the usual rock and roll, almost circus-like flair that has become synonymous with the Lancaster outfit. No fireworks, no music, no scantily clad women, and more bizarrely, no bar. The whole event even lacked the distinct and dulcet tones of Simon Smith, the team's PR director - widely regarded as the voice of the team.

However, the look on the face of the team principal made it clear that despite the hurried discussion and the disruption to pre-season preperations caused by Vandenbroeck's departure, the team had once again landed on their feet. At this point, Williamson announced that experienced Dutchman, Roy Wachtmeester would be joining the team to partner Gregg Lawson for the 2010 campaign. "It is with immense pleasure that I can confirm Roy will be joining Williamson Dynamics for 2010. As a personal friend, I can think of no-one better suited to fit in with the team." stated Williamson, emphatically.

"Roy is reknowned in Sim racing as a consistent driver of the highest quality, and we're all very excited to be working with him this season. It has been long a goal of the team to bring Roy on board, and I'm delighted that this situation has arisen out of recent misfortune. It is regretful that Marco has elected not to drive for us this year, but I'm pleased he will remain involved with the team and wish both him and Yellowbirds the very best fo luck for 2010. Roy himself, sadly had little time to speak with the gathered media, as an urgent seat fitting was required ahead of his first run in the car tomorrow. Though the team are confident that their new signing will warm to his machine quickly.

Director of Race Engineering, Camilo Andres Nino, voiced this clearly: "The car is really pleasant to drive, we're confident in our set-up work and Roy is a top-quality driver. We don't anticipate any problems whatsoever."

Whichever way one looks at it, tomorrow's final test has just taken on a far greater significance for one team in particular, and all eyes can be expected to rest on the blue and black of Williamson Dynamics. And they wouldn't have it any other way.
