Twitter commentary
Hope you all enjoyed the live commentary here, sorry this was the only avenue to keep up with the race. Stream issues fixed for Round 9
I'm hearing Ryan was beached on the kerbs at Louis Chiron and basically refused to escape to the pits hoping to recover. #penaltyincoming
Dissapointment for Morris who deserved to win this one but an exciting night of racing here. Spread the word, the #gpvwc is #mental
Lap 78 - Wicks 4th followed by Muscat, de Vos, Jundt, Morgan (well done), M Stanton and the final point to Fuller who deserves a big cake
Lap 78 - Carr-Smith wins the 2011 GPVWC Monaco GP, Clark is 2nd and Lichtenstein with a great drive to the last step on the podium
Lap 77 - Last lap but one, Carr-Smith still cruising. de Vos & Muscat still battling.
Lap 76 - Mark Wicks is Mr Teflon for the #gpvwc He avoids all the trouble hes consistent on pace, level headed in attack. I admit, I'm a fan
Lap 75 - de Vos is right with Muscat now battling for 5th, careful boys just bring it home. The TDR driver only in his 2nd race ofcourse
Lap 74 - 4 laps to go for the Midnight Motorsport man out front, this would be his first victory of the 2011 season.
Lap 73 - I think if I had started in my pedal car I might have scored a point today. So much carnage, so #gpvwc
Lap 72 - Carr-Smith totally calm out front, no worries, no pressure. Just go and win the Monaco GP sir. #jinxed
Lap 70 - Fuller passes Morris in a stunning move.....just kidding, he finally has passed the previous leaders lap total and moves into 10th.
Lap 69 - No idea how Lichtenstein got past Wicks in that melee, no idea how Muscat is now 5th. Basically im as useful as a FIFA ballot.
Lap 68 - So the order now. Carr-Smith, Clark, Lichtenstein, Wicks, Muscat, de Vos, Jundt, Morgan, M Stanton & Fuller. #ilovegpvwc
Lap 67 - We only have 10 runners left here after that mental few laps. Fuller who is a whole 7 laps down will score a point if he gets home.
Lap 67 - I don't wish to speculate so I won't but it was Ryan who was collected by Morris, not sure if he went off alone or with Consiglio
Lap 66 - Carr-Smith leads by just the 2 whole laps then! Clark is 2nd, Muscat must have had issues too it seems hes 5th. Lichtenstein is 3rd
Lap 65 - It's just so hectic my replay button wont rewind fast enough but we have lost a number of cars. Ryan, Morris, Consiglio, Perkins!
Lap 61 - Morris was involved and has hit what looks like Consiglio who has also must have collected Ryan, they are both DNF! #shocker
Lap 61 - Its absolute carnage and a shocker! Ryan looks to have lost it into Louis Chiron his stricken car is collected by others
Lap 60 - I guess at this point I should now point out Morris has lead since Lap 7 and currently holds the fastest lap, a 1.12.403. 18 to go
Lap 57 - Everyone now looks to have made their final scheduled stops, Morris has a pitstop in his pocket but right now he will not need it.
Lap 55 - Perkins & Lichtenstein pit together. Perkins has cleared Wicks and is now 6th, Lichtenstein is a comfortable 8th
Lap 54 - Carr-Smith does indeed pit and comes out comfortably in 2nd, the front 3 will remain the same if there are no issues.
Lap 54 - Consiglio has made his 2nd stop and unlaps himself as race leader Morris pits for the final time. Carr-Smith remains 2nd yet to pit
Lap 53 - Muscat pits from 4th, looks like he's set for 4th if there is no change in the order up front. Morris leads by nearly 40 seconds
Lap 52 - Ryan pits for what he hopes is the last time today, hes 10th but again probably a net 9th.
Lap 51 - Clark pits from 5th for his final stop, looks he will drop out into 7th but a net 5th
Lap 50 - Perkins yet to pit but sits in 6th, he will have fresher rubber once he does than guys he was battling such as Wicks. #jinxed
Lap 48 - Looks like most of the front runners are 2 stopping now with 30 laps left,we perhaps should see them start to come in around Lap 55
Lap 46 - Race is quite stable now, well over half distance and a perfect time for a toilet break
Lap 44 - We have had 6 retirements so far then, Warren, Walker, Lylykorpi, Damghi, Millar & Ponissi. Mark Fuller sits in last place for now
Lap 42 - David Stanton gets it all wrong at the hairpin and heads nose first into the wall, thats a pitstop for repairs needed.
Lap 41 - Wicks pits from 6th, he will exit into 8th ahead of team mate Ryan. Clear track in front of Mr Consistent.
Lap 40 - Ryan pits from 7th, out into 9th. I can now confirm the cause of retirement for Ponissi was embarrassment.....probably.
Lap 39 - Ponissi has indeed now retired, probably out of shame. Morris leads by 26 seconds from Carr-Smith, Consiglio 3rd + 42 seconds
Lap 37 - Someone is off out of the swimming pool and as luck would have it is Ponissi again who has made a wopping 10 pitstops so far.
Lap 36 - Lichtenstein is up into 9th now, solid drive so far for the German who is now the sole remaining Synergetic.
Lap 34 - de Vos gets a tankslapper out of Louis Chiron and nudges the inside wall, front wing gone and a pitstop. He's out into 10th
Lap 33 - "i am become death the destroyer of cars" - William Ponissi. Off entering the tunnel this time, another front wing gone
Lap 32 - de Vos is practically glued to the back of Wicks now, Wicks seems to be attacked by a TDR at every event this season.
Lap 32 - Everyone bar the top 4 are now lapped, Muscat is the next in line for the charging Morris.
Lap 30 - Ponissi dumps it at Casino after being lapped, no lucky win there for the Italian. He will need to stop for repairs.
Lap 30 - Morris won here in 2010 and is for another if this carries on like it is, 20 seconds over Carr-Smith.
Lap 28 - The same can be said of the two Woods cars so far, Wicks up to 6th and Ryan 8th. Wicks has jumped de Vos after his off.
Lap 26 - Perkins is the last to pit, his rear tyres looked toasted on his in-lap. Out into 8th position, superb drive so far
Lap 25 - Morris now pits from the lead, hes out into quite heavy lapped traffic but Consiglio also pits and is out into 3rd. Morris lead +17
Lap 24 - Carr-Smith pits from 2nd, he was around 15 seconds behind Morris, he comes out 3rd and into some clear air. Consiglio up to 2nd
Lap 23 - Millar is off Sainte Devote and out of the race! Looks like he just locked up and ran wide, shame for the Synergetic team.
Lap 23 - Perkins quietly has made his was up to 6th now, yet to pit however. Keeping it clean is all important here today.
Lap 21 - de Vos out of shape entering portier and loses a place to Clark, the then hits the wall at tabac and loses his wing. Pit needed
Lap 21 - Morris has extended his lead to just over 9 seconds, starting to look ominous for the rest. Strategy and track position crucial here
Lap 19 - It appears Sam Millar has been into the pits twice, unsure as to why perhaps his first pitstop was unscheduled?
Lap 18 - Interesting battle developing between Muscat and de Vos for 4th, the TDR driver hussling the Red Archer at every turn
Lap 17 - Millar pits from 4th, hes out into 11th but quickly past team mate Lichenstein for 10th.
Lap 16 - Long repairs for Jundt, hes down to 16th now and a lap down. Morris lead up to 6.8 seconds. First scheduled stops soon?
Lap 14 - Jundt runs wide at Sainte Devote and catches the outside armco. Rear wing is off, he will have to crawl to the pits. He was 5th.
Lap 12 - Consiglio has pulled a slight gap to Millar now, he has good pace right now and is matching Carr-Smith who is 5 seconds in front.
Lap 11 - Morris now clear of Carr-Smith is positively hammering in the lap times now, that last one a 1.12.9, hes 3.6 seconds clear in P1.
Lap 10 - I'm hearing Ben Morgan has a drive through penalty, again unclear why, punt maybe? He was close to Walker and Jyri earlier
Lap 8 - Walker and Jyri who were running nose to tail are now retired, didn't see it on my monitor but you have to think they had a clash.
Lap 7 - Ponissi pits with what looks like suspension damage, that will hurt his pace the rest of the race. 70 laps still to go
Lap 7- Carr-Smith gets some understeer out of the swimming pool and nudges the armco, Morris slips through into P1!
Lap 6 - Bit of a train forming behind 9th place man Walker but he's holding on comfortably.
Lap 4 - Ben Warren pits and then retires from a lowly position, unclear as to what caused his issues.
Lap 4 - Leaders are in the 1 minute 13's, the following pack around a second down in the 14's. Two horse race at the moment
Lap 3 - The front two are gradually easing away from Consiglio in 3rd who is under fire from the Synergetic of Millar.
Lap 1 - This time its clean and this time Carr-Smith does indeed get into P1 at turn 1. Fingers crossed we get through this stage clear.
So the formation lap starts again, lets hope for a clean start this time around if only so we finish sometime tonight. #areyouready
So back to square one for Turn 1. Can it be clean this time? Who knows but this race will be discussed at length if only for rule changes
The race will be restart from original quali positions. You can wipe those first 6 laps from the history books.
Well it looks like positions might be restarted from what they were on Lap 6. If we have more chaos I don't know what will happen.
As a neutral absolute madness to call a restart 5 laps into a race, alot of upset drivers right now. Monaco eh? Who'd have thought it.
Lap 6 - Well this race is to be restarted, im not sure I agree with that. Rule book or not after 5 laps this race should be continued
Lap 5 - de Vos has indeed retired, he was 2nd at one point. Morris is retired, Millar too. Big names have fallen already. 73 laps to go
Lap 4 - This race is carnage so far, quite unreal but its fantastic for the viewer!
Lap 3 - Millar goes straight on at T1 and retires! de Vos seems to have dropped back. Jundt leads! de Vos is in the wall with no rear wing
Lap 2 - Millar leads from de Vos, they are 5 seconds clear of the rest. That hectic first corner looks to have ended the front two's race
Lap 1 - Morris is crawling around, damaged race probably over. Carr-Smith is damaged, Consiglio is damaged. Its chaos out there, #rockystyle
We are off! And so are the front two! Morris gets a slow start, Carr-Smith leads into T1 but Morris goes inside and turns them both around.
Formation lap begins, a few incidents have occured this season on it, lets hope for a clean one. Both Stantons just make it back from a d/c
Drivers now forming up for the formation lap, could be a hectic start but will do my best to catch everything. #areyouready?
A few drivers have minor penalties applied from previous racers moving them back a few positions on the grid. Nobody in the Top 10 effected
Quick break before the race begins. Interesting to see what the lower guys do on strategy.
Q2 - Lee Morris does indeed take his first pole of the season, suprising stat, congrats to him and the underfire Draig team.
Q2 - Morris improves by a fraction, Carr-Smith doesn't. Morris should be on pole here. The rest looks done, de Vos impresses in 4th
Q2 - Consiglio blocked by Walker and then seemingly shows him what he thinks of it, might have ruined Muscats lap too.
Q2 - Morris & Carr-Smith pit for fresh tyres again, both improve by a tenth on their second laps. 2 minutes left. de Vos up to 4th
Q2 - Morris improves to a 11.9, Carr-Smith 3 tenths down. Can he find some more time? Consiglio in for tyres again. Millar is 4th + 1 sec
Q2 - Consiglio not improving on fresh rubber, light damage perhaps? Others now moving to fresh tyres with 5 minutes left. #abouttokickoff
Q2 - Muscat up to 5th unclear what tyres hes on but he was partly blocked by Consiglio slowing for some space at Antony Noghes
Q2 - Consiglio is the first front runner to pit for fresh rubber, lets see what he's got. At the moment all he's got is some traffic
Q2 - Morris jumps up to 1st with two consecutive 12.3 laps. Still fuel burning though, order so far relatively static.
Q2 - The session begins, initial part of the session usually is the fuel burn phase with times steadily coming down. Lets see what happens.
Q2 - Interesting at the top, front 4 covered by just over 4 tenths. Morris perhaps the favorite given FP times
Q2 - Will begin in a few minutes. Fuel from the end of Q1 is carried over, they can then burn that fuel down to set a time on fresh rubber
Q1 - Some big names have fallen, both Woods as mentioned, Lichenstein, Damghi, Perkins and David Stanton. Tough race to start low down.
Q1 - Both Woods cars are indeed out, Ryan just over a tenth shy of the important 12th position, it belongs to Walker. Q1 is now over
Q1 - Toikka loses his wing, thats his quali over, he is 20th. Woods drivers struggling to get into Q2 too, Ryan 14th, Wicks 15h
Q1 - Perkins in the pits with 5 minutes to go, currently 16th and over 2 seconds off Q2, perhaps trying something different on strategy
Q1 - Clark who made it back after his incident gets to 12th and then 7th. A quick turn around for that cars fortunes. Damghi on the bubble
Q1 - Lylykorpi is now 4th on a 13.8, safe enough for Q2. David Stanton now on the bubble but quickly bumped by Lichtenstein. 7 mins left
Q1 - Clark who is currently 11th is off in a big way. He's trying to get back to the pits at a crawl, pretty dangerous.
Q1 - Millar improves to a 13.9 but is bumped to 4th by Consiglio who's first lap is a 13.2, that should see him through. Remember race fuel
Q1 - 8 drivers still to set a time, alot of changes yet. Finding some clear air for a clean lap will be crucial tonight, particularly in Q1
Q1 - Millar is now up to 3rd on a 14.1 with de Vos for company. 9 tenths covers 3rd to 10th. Toikka on the bubble at the moment.
Q1 - Carr-Smith improves to a 1.12.7, Morris a 12.9. Both return to the pits, Morris escaped on track therefore is done for the session.
Q1 - Carr-Smith sets a time in the low 1.13's, followed by Morris a tenth back. The rest are in the 14's & 15's but its early days.
Qualifying 1 begins. Looks like quite a few early runners already. Among them Stanton, Morris, Clark and Carr-Smith
Drivers must pick their starting fuel load in Q1, if they progress to Q2 fuel load remains from end of Q1 but they can burn that fuel off.
RD Briefing to the drivers now before Q1 starts. Just to explain Q1 is a 20 minute session, Top 12 go through to Q2 which is 15 minutes.
Free Practice ends, Morris on top followed by Consiglio & Carr-Smith. The others have some catching up to do to match that time from Morris
Officially no stream tonight, all the more reason to follow us on twitter. Get your @GPVWC messages in for the race.
FP - Relatively close mid pack, but free practice times is all about putting in the laps for development points.
FP - Controversy however as the Draig driver was not informed under the terms of his teams financial rescue neither car should be lapping.
FP - Morris goes fastest by 1.5 seconds, welcome to Monaco the rest of you
FP - Consiglio currently fastest by a couple of tenths from Carr-Smith, Championship leader Morris yet to post a time.
Rumour has it a few teams have upgrades for Monaco, among them Woods & Nijo Racing. We'll see if it moves them up the grid.
Technical issues may mean there is no live stream tonight, will keep you posted for a definate answer soon. Official Free Practice begins...
