Teams and drivers
The amount of team slots was reduced from 14 to 13 for the 2017 season, with the GPVWC Management citing a desire to promote quality over quantity in GPVWC series in 2017.
Team changes
- 2016 Teams' Championship winners Team Proline elected not to continue in the Career Ladder in 2017. Subsequently, Streetfighter Racing Systems were promoted to the Superleague.
- Neither Proline, Enterprise GP, Fox Racing, GoSport International or Ice Cold Racing continued into the 2017 season.
New entries
- Cosmo Seiki, Deltec Racing Team, Epic Racing, Hinss Motorsport and Zedderick Racing were all promoted from the Formula Challenge.
- Notably, Cosmo's team base moved from England to Japan, with the team citing their change as following a desire to improve further on their 2017 successes.
Returning entries
- Draig Racing made their return to Supercup after a six-year absence.
Technical changes
- A new second dry tyre compound (the "Soft" compound) was added, with the existing 2016 compound becoming the "Hard" compound. Both compounds would need to be used in a race.
- The wet tyres recieved an adjustment to grip levels.
- The downforce package selection was simplified, leaving just one aero package.
