Teams and drivers
The amount of team slots was reduced from 14 to 13 for the 2017 season, with the GPVWC Management citing a desire to promote quality over quantity in GPVWC series in 2017.

Team changes
- 2016 Teams' Championship winners Team Proline elected not to continue in the Career Ladder in 2017. Subsequently, Streetfighter Racing Systems were promoted to the Superleague.
- Neither Proline, Enterprise GP, GoSport International or Ice Cold Racing continued into the 2017 season.
New entries
- Cosmo Autosport, Deltec Racing Team, Epic Racing, Hinss Motorsport and Zedderick Racing were all promoted from the Formula Challenge.
Returning entries
- Draig Racing made their return to Supercup after a six-year absence.
2017 Calendar
Calendar changes
- The Bahrain Grand Prix, Turkish Grand Prix and Dutch Grand Prix were removed from the calendar, the Dutch round having been replaced with the German Grand Prix in 2016.
- The location of the Spanish Grand Prix changed from the Circuit de Catalunya to the Valencia Street Circuit, Valencia hosting the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time in Supercup history.
- The location of the German Grand Prix changed from the Hockenheimring to the Nurburgring.
- The Singapore Grand Prix and Chinese Grand Prix returned to the calendar after being removed in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
- The season-ending race was changed from the Brazilian Grand Prix to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
