The 2016 Formula Challenge season will be the 5th GPVWC Formula Challenge season.

The amount of team slots was reduced from 20 to 15 for the 2015 season, co-inciding with the move to rFactor 2 for the 2016 Career Ladder series.

Team changes

• Ice Cold Racing, Team Proline, Centurion Grand Prix, Karjala Racing and Racing Team Shroten were all promoted to the Supercup.
• Deltec Racing Team completed their merger with the Armaroli Racing Team would race under the latter name and with Brazilian nationality in the 2016 season.
• Dogecoin Racing, Downforce iZone Racing, Katana Motorsports, Triple Twenty and Viking Racing all did not continue into the 2016 season.

New entries

• EVAL Simracing Team, Magenta WRT, Sportscar Driving Evolution and Tēafor Motorsport are all rookies to the career ladder in the 2016 season.

Calendar changes

• The Portuguese and Singapore Grands Prix were both removed from the calendar
• The calendar was extended to 18 events seeing the return of the Mexican Grand Prix after a 3 year absence whilst also seeing the first runnings of the Russian and Dutch Grands Prix.
