SO MUCH TESTING? SO LITTLE TIME!
The second leg of the F1VWC 2007 Winter Tests ran last weekend and my apologies for the late posting of this report.
But better late than never...
And never better was a circuit more structured to provide vital statistical data and genuine performance results than Britain's own F1 home, Silverstone!

The renovation of the wartime airfield into a full blown racing track in 1943 has changed little in its 64 Yrs and it still proves to be a Pandora's box as regards the perfect set-up. The asphalt paved paradox in the green grass county of Northamptonshire is still enough to make even the most long in the tooth ardent technician scratch his head in the hunt for perfect Man/Machine performance.
The British weather was mild and dry on all 3 days, and on all 3 days all 11 teams showed a marked improvement on their virgin performances in France two weeks earlier.
However some familiar names were to dominate the top of the leaderboard.

DAY 1
Bracciano's Alberto Martin showed his hand early with a (1:21.729)
Whilst Eire's Jorge Caranti followed (0.614) adrift of the Spaniards pace.
KOT's Wilhelm Frueh showed a marked improvement on his French pace by slamming in an impressive (1:23.334) but even this was still over a second shy of his fellow top 3 drivers.

DAY 2
This day was a Dog Day Afternoon.
Bracciano's Martin managed a marginally faster (1:21.506) than his previous day's time thoroughly re-affirming his ambient to possible champion winning status.
But 2nd place went to another F1VWC rookie whose performance has been greatly anticipated since his controversial signing late last year. Vitaliy Kamborov sported a (1:22.318) on his virgin outing for the Vod:Bul racing team, dismissing any notions of his speed and ability to race for the championship title itself.
Also Adam Rouse of Vod:bul chased down both with an impressive (1:22.781) firmly showing his own determination.
Although Bracciano kept the Crown on Day 2, Vod:bul stamped their mark and proved that they are a team to be reckoned with in 2007.

DAY 3
In time honoured tradition Laurent Keersmaeke of Simsoa-VR joined in on the final session and spoiled the party yet again by setting an equally matching pace with a (1:21.552) which left Bracciano's Martin adrift by only (0.217) and again saw Steve Elencevski preview his customary speed and prominence on the final day with a (1:22.914)

The Next of the Best 5 Flyers were:
Vincent Keersmaeke (Simsoa-VR) 1.22.917 (Day 3)
Kari Koski (FinOz) 1:22.997 (Day 3)
Fernando Sales (RTT) 1:23.391 (Day 2)
Mark Wicks (Woods) 1:23.420 (Day 3)
Nazario Nuti (Bracciano) 1:23.653 (Day 3)

Top Speed was attained by Dave Cummins in the Synergetic at (315.86 kmh)

The next testing at Jerez may well prove very educational.
After this final testing the teams will have used up all their Pre-Race R&D points.
And after that there is nothing left to prove but Race Pace, Endurance and Champagne Finishes!
