Laurentiu Albu performed a pure piece of magic to clinch his and Belami Racing's first Pole Position ever in what seems now to be a GPVWC tradition - a new polesitter every race. The Romanian driver nailed an impressive lap that was impossible for the opposition to match - and has now a superb chance to plan his race towards the still elusive victory.

Behind him, Mark Wicks did just enough to secure a place in the first row, but was still fifteen hundredths of second slower than Albu. It is still a mystery whether fuel loads have played a part in this gap, but surely the Cornish driver will need to act quickly and confidently in the first phases of the race to avoid his Romanian rival to run away with the win.

In a Qualifying session which saw the absence of both Nordsjoens, stuck in the pits dealing with safety issues after Scott Whiteman's suspension collapsed in the first lap of Free Practice, Mal McKee and Martijn Vosselman, the third position on the grid was occupied by Daniel Bolman -a career best for the driver from Spijkenisse. The list of regular qualifiers ended with the two Platform Michelangelo of Jeroen Jansen and Michelangelo Manrique in 4th and 5th position respectively.

The relative heat in Barcelona could play an important factor come race day - especially in regards of the tyre wear. It will be important to see how the teams are planning the race strategy - particularly with some of the front runners starting from the pit-lane, and therefore able to choose the setup of their liking.
