They saw him at the start, and then he was gone.

Mark Wicks won the 2008 GPVWC Spanish Grand Prix in dominating fashion as he leaped over eventual runner-up Laurentiu Albu at the start and never looked back to clinch his second win of the season. The Cornish driver, on Woods Racing - Renault, drove a smooth and glitch-free race and increased his season tally to 28 points - on 30 available. At the chequered flag, the difference between the first two drivers was 30 seconds - an impressive result especially considering that Albu drove very well today.

The last step of the podium was occupied by Mal McKee, who climbed from a pit lane start up to the high positions, and took his best chance out of Martijn Vosselman's retirement. The Dutch driver was on course to score a third place (and his first points of the season) but spun out on lap 58 - ironically, only one lap short of the 90% race distance required to be classified.

McKee had to battle with William Ponissi in the first stages of the race; the Italian driver, however, ran into trouble after his first pitstop, and from that moment on lost contact with his rival's Synergetic. The last of the classified finishers was Michelangelo Manrique, who turns 28 on May 20th, and scored 4 points for PM. Daniel Bolman, instead, retired when he lost control of his car on lap 16 - a disappointing result for a driver who, until then, was potentially going to challenge Vosselman for a podium place.

The GPVWC Championship now moves to Turkey, at the beautiful and enjoyable Istanbul Park circuit, for round 4 of the 2008 World Championship.
