Nijo Racing have been the first team to break cover so far in regard to their 2011 challenger, after releasing preliminary photos of the car in it's winter test livery. Here will will look a little deeper at the chassis, named the NR11, and attempt to discern a little more detail.

The bulk of the NR11 is constructed from carbon fibre, with the inclusion of an extra safety measure in the form of Zylon side anti-intrusion panels. Like all chassis this season, the NR11 shows a long wheelbase that last season GPVWC cars, and this will reflect badly on cornering and handling but is not an issue specific to the NR11.

Somewhat conservatively, as you may expect from a newly entered outift, Nijo have opted to employ carbon fibre composite wishbone suspension, with aluminium uprights. With inboard, chassis-mounted torsion springs, dampers and anti-roll assembly completing the suspension construction.

A seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox ensures the power gets to where it needs to be, although the supplier of this piece is as yet unclear, it is known to be light. The estimated weight of the car, including driver, stands at around 620kg which is toward the competetive end of recent estimates.

Despite being a new team, the team's obvious choice to extend both the length and width of the car, as opposed to simply one dimension, shows a well-thought design process and a leaning toward as much competetive ability as possible and a clear knowledge of aerodynamic efficency has been employed in the design.

We can expect to see the NR11 perform best on low downforce tracks, where it's high nose and well designed chassis shape should allow for minimum drag, however, we can also inversely expect a drop-off in performance on slower circuits. The NR11 is also not a car likely to hold speed well through the corners and so the drivers will have to focus on ensuring the best corner exit possible and maximising their time on the power to ensure it's overall straightline speed compensates.
