Standing out from the crowd, the Synergetic SYM11 is certainly one to watch this season. On paper alone, the SYM11 is the most competetive package so far seen in GPVWC to date, although only the third contender to be scrutinsed by the media.

Its wide and flat nose has become an accepted alternative to the high mounted, sharp noses fielded by many other teams. In this regard, there are quite simply two schools of thought set by the two foremost GPVWC title favourites heading into 2011. With the raised sharp nose the design championed by Nordsjoen Racing, Synergetic are the other trend-setters with many benefits to a winder, flatter nose shape being noted by several teams.

Where Synergetic's contender truly stands out in this regard is that they are the only team running a wider, flatter nose design mounted close to the ground. this is something of an accepted old-school strategy from Formula one cars of the past, but it is effective and in the coming season, unique.

Another interesting addition to the SYM11 is the rather unique struture of the engine cover and airbox, the engine cover is the ultimate in engineering conservatism, avoiding the shark-fin design spreading like wild-fire amongst teams emulating the ingenuity of the Williamson Dynamics aero department. However, the airbox is pure innovation, a cutting edge attempt to clear up the airflow usually disrupted by the engine air intake. a design which, if employed correctly, will signifcantly improve the efficency of the elegantly designed rear wing assembly. Allowing efficent cooling, without significant disruption to airflow, again this may have been a factor in avoiding a shark-fin mounted on the engine cover.

Again, the Synergetic design breaks from the usual when it comes to suspension assembly, with the team being the only one so far choosing to run with wishbones partnered with pushrod activated torsion springs. This is another gamble by the team, but one where real benefit can be found if you can have the jump on your rivas in developmental terms. The gear box is a third party supplied 7 speed, and the second team so far to confirm the use of sequential shift, with Nijo Racing being the only team so far to remain with a proven semi-automatic design.

This really is a forward thinking design, and a real push to take the fight to Nordsjoen in 2011. in summary, the Synergetic SYM11, very much like the WDF1.11 previously featured, is the end product of a rather unique development process.

Both cars display more clear differences from the established "norm" than any other contenders, the effectiveness of either still unproven.
