Synergetic boss Mal McKee announced today that a bid to house Ferrari's horses has been successful. The Prancing Pony has come in for some criticism based on last year's results, and the bid has even been controversial within the Synergetic camp itself. Upcoming star Sam Millar seemed unmoved by the controversy. "We have to look at the fortunes of the teams driving with Ferrari power last year as a whole and not base our opinions only on bad results and bad luck," he said.

"The important thing is that we have a competitive engine and we've moved away from the underpowered and underdeveloped packages that Cosworth has supplied us with so far," added McKee. "I have no doubt that this package will provide our talented drivers with the best opportunity to challenge at the front, instead of catching up from behind. Nikos [Evangelidakis] has suggested that the package lacks power, but I would challenge that assertion and counter by saying that as attractive a deal that the Renault was, it has its advantages and disadvantages. I wouldn't say that Ferrari was the pick of the bunch this year, but they have a proven track record and an R&D department second to none."

Mal agreed, however, with Nikos' opinion on the Mercedes package. "Who ever took that deal certainly has some of the work done for them to start with. For us though, the Ferrari deal was a shrewd one. The engines are only part of a story that's yet to get beyond the first chapter. We're looking to improve our position in the championship and I believe with the team of people we've gathered around us we're in a better position than ever."

In other news, Mal welcomed Kerry Hughes into the fold in Synergetic's R&D Department. Hughes last worked with Down Racing outfit back in 2002, McKee's debutorial management year and a year of very mixed fortunes. The team enjoyed a quiet celebratory do to welcome Hughes a week ago.
