European Williamson Dynamics have today confirmed that negotiations are completed on a potential 2 season deal to run their cars under Mercedes-Benz Power.

The team's recent revamp, plus the relocation to German capital, Berlin in addition to the signing of rising German star, Tim-Oliver Wagner are all believed to be crucial factors in Mercede's agreement to stretch to power the team with the same works package offered to its other partners in the GPVWC. Williamson Dynamics have yet to conifrm any performance related clauses in the contract, and have also yet to answer rumours that the Mercedes tie-up had been an 11th hour deal, with the team initally hours away from committing to rival brand, BMW.

Not only will BMW be disappointed, but also long term partner, Cosworth, were hoping to reignite the race winning pairing that so impressed in 2009. A spokesman for Daimler-Benz, Mercede's parent brand, stated that the company were "delighted" to have confirmed the deal, adding; "We really feel our engines are second to none in the GPVWC, one of the most prestigious markets we operate in. Likewise, Williamson Dynamics design is second to none, and we are confident of providing a package capable of re-asserting that."

Team owner, Ben Williamson added in his statement; "We were already feeling confident going into the season, this wonderful partnership gives us even greater cause for optimism." This historic announcement comes just days after WD began interim negotiations to run SAAB's entry in a potential WRC based competition in 2012, seeing the team move a little more away from its own engine and car production efforts to focus on partnering established manufacturers as a low cost way to increase exposure. Already announced is WD's switch from Aston Martin, to field Spyker machines from 2011 onward in all appropriate competitions.

Escaping cuts is the team's own LMP1 prototype, due to begin racing in 2012 also. Despite the team's long standing choice from previous years to remain a purely Formula One Based manufacturer, the input of new team members and the pressure to increase the effective use of the team's state of the art facilities led to the introduction of the European brand in mid 2009 to operate all sports car entries. WD have additionally shown interest in a potential DTM based programme after successfully fielding a touring car programme for the GPVWC master series. Also surving is the team's partnership with VDB Motorsports to prduce entries for the Simdy 500, however the team remain staunch in the view that beyond that they want no further association with indycar or NASCAR based entries, claiming such a move would diminish the strong European roots of the team and it's reputation as a credible engineering brand.
