Draig Racing have made a flying start to the 2011 season.Three races into the season and the outfit seem to be going in the right direction. The in-form team have been right at the front of the pack from day one of testing, and have now converted all of the possible chances into wins.

The first weekend in Melbourne got off to a flyer, with two people jockeying for Pole position with less than 0.065 between Lee Morris and Joe Consiglio of Nordsjoen. With this little margin it’s a wonder on how the development of the vehicle has been going. The race was a tense one, with the only thing that finally separated the two drivers being the retirement of Joe due to his brakes failing, Lee taking full advantage to secure his first Draig Racing podium and win.

Onto Abu dhabi for Race weekend two, and once again this was down to half a second difference for pole and P2. Once again, Lee and Draig did not panic, knowing they had reliability and with the taste of winning, the Draig driver went all out on set up and strategy to secure the win, albeit by a small margin of 0.573 seconds. That the margin of error to give Draig and Lee win number two.

With all Lee’s fighting going on at the front of the pack, Driag Racings second driver Ryan Walker has matured very quickly. In his first full season in the Superleague, Ryan has been taken under the the wing of his team mate Lee, working well together, formulating setups and testing strategies out. This was more evident in Japan, where Ryan had the quality to show his nerve in Q1, crossing the line with about 10 seconds before the flag was dropped, and storming round the track to move himself from 14th to the top 12 shootout, this being his best qualifying session of all. Racing alongside the likes of well established drivers like Adam Rouse, Phil Perkins and David Stanton, Ryan has exceeded all expectations, by pushing theses guys all the way.

Lee’s Japanese adventure made it three from three, but this wasn’t as simple as expected. Down to p3 into the 1st corner and trailing, Morris kept Mike Phillis, the teams principle, wondering what was wrong with the car. The expert driver, however, kept it all together slowly plugging away, until the last corner where all his hard work was repayed, taking the lead from the Nordsjoen of Consiglio and crossing the line 0.167seconds ahead, the smallest margins for victory. With the whole of the GPVWC paddock stating that was the most epic race in history, Draig racing are glad to of been part of that.

So where to now? Draig racing are off to the home of the Dragon, and wish to say “ni hao” to china and the Jaiding Ring.
