After a tense week of engine negotiations Constant Racing are pleased
to announce their cars will be powered by Volkswagen in 2012.

A contract was signed yesterday afternoon and marks the beginning of a
whole new era for both the team and German manufacturer. Indeed, this
will be Volkswagen?s first ever experience of the Superleague, as team
co-owner Joe Consiglio explains:

?Whilst it?s true Volkswagen wasn?t our first choice of
engine, we?re hoping this deal is the start of something special for
both organisations.

Our initial calculations suggest that engine performance is going to
be less critical in 2012 and because VW are new to the Superleague they
have been very reasonable with their cost demands. This has saved
Constant a heck of a lot of money, something in the region of
£15million.

The plan is to plough this extra money into car development. We have
an aggressive strategy in place this season and we have a good budget to
achieve our targets.?

One of the big stories to emerge from this week?s engine negotiations
was Constant?s very public failure to secure BMW power for 2012.
Reports say the deal was 99% complete until a late offer from Green
Stripes Racing saw BMW switch sides and leave Constant out in the cold.

?We don?t really understand why they (BMW) did that to be
honest. It?s fair to say we didn?t have the best season last year but
we?re an established team with a decent history and two very good
drivers.

All I?ll say to BMW is, don?t come crying back to us mid-season when we?re kicking your ass in the standings!?

All that remains now for the team is a frantic last minute
installation of the VW211 engine. The car is due to hit the track in
less than a week?s time for the first pre-season test in Jerez. Both
Stanton?s and Teemu Toikka are expected to be giving the CR-SL12 its
first major shakedown.
