On the evening of 6th February 2012, Hatchell-Pennine have announced that Toby Jones' contract for his Formula Challenge seat in 2012 has been withdrawn, due to 'lack of contact with team personnel and general lack of effort in pre-season preparations'.

Liam Hatchell, Hatchell-Pennine Motorsport CEO attended a short press conference and gave the following statement:-"Today, the 6th of February 2012, I regret to announce that after a short period within the team, GPVWC Formula Challenge driver Toby Jones will no longer hold a current contract with Hatchell-Pennine Motorsport. After numerous attempts to get into contact with him, I'm afraid we have exhausted all avenues of progression and therefore, we have no choice but to open his race seat to another candidate. The team, along with the Hatchell-Pennine Group as a whole, is a family in itself which prides itself and is renown for good contact, involvement and support to each and every one of its members. Unfortunately, when one member of the team fails to adhere to that aspect of the team, they no longer become part of the family - or more so, they have not embedded themselves as part of the family. We're a professional group, and while we do not enjoy taking this action, sometimes it has to be pursued. In terms of team leaders, Ihab Abbas will now act as main driver in the team for this year. While he is currently the only driver in the team, we will endeavor to locate a suitable partner for our - and his - campaign in 2012. I'm sure that for the time being, he will be able to adapt well to the changes within the team and that he will welcome any driver that joins him for this year's competition.I just want to establish to our rivals that while we're down one driver, we are by no means down on determination. Hopefully we can still earn some great points and finishes for this year".The team are expected to be in talks with one or two drivers, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
