Wins by Luke Maguire and Chris Shepherd on the streets of the capital of Azerbaijan means the battle at the top of Formula Challenge is getting fiercer.
The GPVWC's first impact with the narrow streets of Baku was always going to produce a series of spectacular races, but the implications this round will have for the championship may be crucial.

After missing the last round in China, Luke Maguire set out to make amends by claiming pole position ahead of the STAX duo of Adrian Campfield and Chris Shepherd.

With Campfield's race only lasting three laps before an untimely retirement, Maguire set out to control the race in his Shift Gear, finishing where he started ahead of MDR's Wesley Stefano and Red Arrow's Chris Butcher. Shepherd could only finish outside the podium, in fourth.

Butcher's title bid was set back, however, in race two. Starting in P9, the championship leader could only muster a single point in 15th. Rival Shepherd, in the meanwhile, turned his eighth place into a narrow win over the other Red Arrow of David Jundt, with James Early completing the podium.

The results leave Butcher in the lead of the championship, his gap on Shepherd reduced to 15 points. Osvaldo Angelone, DNF in race one and ninth in race two, lags behind with 61 points, three ahead of Campfield.

Red Arrow keeps the lead in the team's championships, their 147 points giving them a 9-points gap on STAX Racing.
