As rumoured here after the Brazil race, Southern Cross Industries have joined with Nick Wirth, Reynard's Technical Director to purchase the remnants of the chassis manufacturer after the Royal Bank of Scotland pulled the plug and appointed receivers.

It is proposed that the remaining staff and resourses of Reynard will continue to produce chassis for the American CART FedEx Championship, European F3000 and the various Formula 3 series worldwide. S.C.I. subsidiary Windmill Chassis will take over supply to the Japanese Nippon Series and the continued development of the F1 chassis.

SCUM will see an almost immediate benefit; The new merged comany, Reynard Windmill, will this week submit a new F1 chassis to the GPVWC Administration for testing which will see it unveiled hopefully in time for the testing session in France. Windmill have been trying to develop the Mommark chassis but have been struggling to get its weight down and lose what feels like a hinge in the mid-section of the car.

Both Rab Harding and chief designer Colin Green pointed out that both drivers were faster through the twisty 2nd section at Sao Paulo in the Reynard F3000 car than in their Grand Prix car. Harding stated "We're all really excited with the prospect of having a competitive chassis. Dan has also proposed a new paint scheme to go with the new chassis. He's been looking for any excuse to change the current paint scheme of the car that he's christened the Barneymobile" (after children's show character Barney the Dinosaur)

Regan said "With the continuing development of the Renault engine along with the opportunity to develop a chassis with input from all the series Reynard are involved in we see a very bright future of GPVWC rookies, Southern Cross United Motorsports."
