Cornish motor racing enthusiasts will doubtlessly tune in to this week? Austrian Supercup race as their very own team takes to the track. St. Austell based Kernow Sport have been awarded the privilege of joining the Supercup circus from Round 6 of the 2011 Championship after League Admins opened up applications for new teams.

Owner and Manager Mark Wicks jumped at the chance to acquire a slot in the open-wheel championship, following several successful touring car campaigns in recent years for his team. Kernow Sport first appeared in sim-racing as far back as 2001 in the International Grand Prix Championship, but ran only a handful of races before Wicks was picked up by Mapes-VO to drive for their team the following season. It wasn? until 2009 that the name resurfaced for the GPVWC BMW Masters and later the Megane Winter Series, where the team scored its first ever racing victory. Having looked to join the Supercup championship over the 2010/11 off-season a lack of available drivers forced Wicks to pull away from competing for now, as he concentrated on his own driving in the Superleague for Woods Racing. Now though an influx of new and exciting drivers to the challenging and spectacular feeder series has meant Kernow Sport can rise again; after two talented drivers offered their services.

And so Kernow Sport unveils their race challenger, in the team? customary colour-scheme of black, white and yellow. The two drivers who join the team to compete are revealed as Wopke Hoekstra and Tom Parker. Tom needs no introduction as a previous Superleague driver and league commentator you all know his voice. Having stepped down from his Superleague race-seat at Nijo he joins Kernow Sport with the aim to enjoy his racing and showcase his talent in a more relaxed environment then the intense Superleague. Wopke is a relative new-comer. Having only previously raced at GPVWC in the Masters Championship for one round he now wants to learn and reveal his talent to the community through the Supercup. With both these enthusiastic drivers sitting in the Kernow cockpits, this new team could pack an instant punch in Supercup circles.
