With the Career Ladder series now all well underway, it is also time for the first of the independent series to start.

After two rounds of the Superleague, Supercup and Formula Challenge, the World GT will start its new season in Malaysia on the Sepang International Circuit. The series will feature 8 rounds of 90 minute long races, with the season ending on the 28th of June at Spa-Francorchamps.

The calendar provides an interesting mixture of tracks that are featured on the Career Ladder and tracks that are not raced on by the main series. This will give the drivers an opportunity to explore more new venues, although it must be said that all of the tracks are top level with the likes of Bathurst and Road Atlanta making their way onto the calendar. Interestingly, only Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps have remained on the calendar from the 2017 season, providing space for six new tracks.

Furthermore, the reigning constructors' champion EVAL Simracing Team decided not to continue in 2018. Their drivers' champion Risto Kappet however has found a new home in the form of ACR Zakspeed, the team he is also racing for in Superleague. Since no second driver has officially been signed by the team yet, it remains a question how strong the team will be and whether Kappet will be able to hold on to his title. The season certainly looks set to be an interesting one, with the teams fielding a great mixture of quick veterans and new talents that could mix up the order.

In a clear attempt to improve on their performance last year, Epic Racing Team partnered up with Radical Sportscars. With two new drivers behind the wheel compared to last year, it will be interesting to see how they perform. It will be tough for them to beat their finishing position of 3rd from last year. The team only fielded one car for most of the rounds there however, which shows the clear possibility for improvement.

The drivers are determined to make it a great championship, but there can only be one winner. The question remains who that will be. Make sure to tune in on the livestream on the 22nd of March at 19:30 GMT so you do not miss any of the action!
