It was another strong weekend for Malta Force in Round 8 of the Formula Sprint 1 championship, with Mateusz Majka and Pawel Andrzejewski locking out the front row in qualifying and converting it into a controlled 1-2 finish in Race 1.
Majka had been quietly consistent since his Barcelona victory, but Silverstone saw him reassert himself with an inch-perfect pole lap, holding off Andrzejewski by just 0.091s. The pair then ran unchallenged in the opening race, finishing over ten seconds ahead of the rest.
Shiba capitalised on a more fragmented midfield to secure another double top-five result. Giuseppe Saracino edged teammate Lorenzo De Ciutiis for third, while Jasse Lahtinen kept Apex in the mix with fourth.
Further back, Lucas Thylin showed signs of form in both races. The KKR driver climbed from P10 to P6 in Race 1, then claimed his first FS1 win in Race 2. Thylin ran a clean reverse grid race and absorbed late pressure from Frank Hamming to secure a timely victory.
Behind them, Hamming continued his quiet accumulation of points for HGP, finishing second in Race 2 to close the gap slightly to the top three in the standings. De Ciutiis and Saracino again featured in the lead group, with consistent scoring further solidifying Shiba's hold on second in the teams' standings.
It was a more muted weekend for Apex, with Lahtinen salvaging points in both races while Oliver Taras recovered from a poor Race 1 with a charge from P19 to P8 in Race 2. Still, the team finds itself needing stronger rounds to keep up with the front-running pair.
Elsewhere, Vin Glenn and Owen Kvilhaugsvik both delivered solid reverse grid drives, while the likes of Okkenhaug, Flack and Konig saw mixed fortunes. Majka, however, leaves Silverstone with a 21-point lead in the drivers' championship and momentum clearly on his side.
