The 2011 Supercup Austrian Grand Prix was the 6th race of the 2011 Supercup season and was won by Lewis Redshaw.

Report

Lewis Redshaw put in an impressive performance to see off every opposition and claim his second win in the 2011 Supercup. The English driver finished in front of Championship leader Bart De Vos and Pavel Loknovski in a race that saw some early protagonists, such as Gregg Lawson, fall victim of scary crashes.

Redshaw managed to interrupt De Vos's dominance in qualifying by clinching pole position by 0.040 seconds and seemed to get off the line in a classy fashion, having lost position to the Belgian by turn 1 but recovered the lead by turn 4. This was just the beginning of a long race, however, and while in the background Teemu Toikka went wide forcing some rivals to take evasive action, some intense fighting opened up at the front. The first eight laps saw positions almost crystallized, but a rare error by Redshaw saw the Nordsjoen Racing driver go in a half spin, opening the door for De Vos. The Belgian's lead was to be short-lived, however, as a spin sent him to brush the barriers, leaving him in need of a new front wing. The same fate was in store for David Jundt, by then in fourth position - the two stops relegating the drivers in 10th and 15th positions respectively.

Redshaw set out followed by Pavel Loknovski and an interesting battle for third between Liam Hatchell, Ihab Abbas and Gregg Lawson, with the last two of the group colliding towards the end of the race - Lawson ending in the barriers and Abbas collecting damage a few turns later.

A gallant comeback saw De Vos complete an impressively long second stint to catch up with Loknovski, the two drivers battling (with a few hits for good measure) before yet another contact sent the Estonian driver spinning. Loknovski was, however, able to retake the track and finish in third position, in front of Hatchell. The day however belonged to Lewis Redshaw who crossed the line to take take the win ahead of his rivals.
