Report

Race Weekend Format

2 races per ‘round’. Consisting of a 25 minute feature race, and a 15 minute sprint race. The starting grid for Race 2 will be the reversed results of Race 1.

Practice = 20 minutes
Qualifying = 10 minutes
Warm-up = 5 minutes
Race 1 (Feature) = 25 minutes
Race 2 (Sprint) = 15 minutes (Reverse Grid)
Special Race (45 minutes) - Round 7 Only

Series Changes

For 2010 the race times for both rounds of each event were shortened by 5 minutes in order to have a longer official free practice session before qualifying. The biggest change was the size of each team entry which in 2009 Masters Series season allowed upto 3 cars at each event, this was changed to a maximum of 2 cars in order to allow more full team entries. The series start date was also moved later into the year in order for it to start after the Superleague and Supercup seasons had finished.

The series schedule was shortened by 2 events and a single round event at the 12.93 mile Nordschleife was held as a special one off race mid-season. Some events were replaced for different venues for 2010 after careful consideration with drivers that entered into the 2010 season, however the core of the series format remained the same as well as maintaining the BMW E90 as the official series car.

Season summary

Joe Consiglio on his way to victory at the intimidating Nordschleife circuit.
The Masters Series made it’s long awaited return in the winter of 2010/2011. The big news was that 2009 Masters Series Champion Adam Rouse would not be competing in 2010. The pundits favourite Joe Consiglio was expected to take his first Masters victory after impressing but not quite making it to the winner’s rostrum in 2009.

In the end the 13 round series turned out to be a Consiglio whitewash. The Maltese driver took Pole in every event, on his way to winning all 7 feature races, as well as 3 sprints. Sam Millar was Consiglio’s main challenge as he impressed with his one lap pace but ultimately was often unable to match Consiglio’s consistency over a race distance. David Jundt showed promise with a sprint victory at Snetterton whilst Nick Rowland just managed to head off Mark Stanton to win at Birmingham (sprint). The Nordschleife Special was predictably won by Consiglio but only after a close fight with Millar and Jason Muscat in the opening laps of the race.

Consiglio took the title in Austria with his team Nordsjoen Racing picking up yet another GPVWC crown in the team's championship. With William Ponissi unable to compete after Laguna Seca, Jason Muscat was drafted in to partner Consiglio and help the Italian outfit in their team championship quest.

Overall the series was another huge success. A total of 30 drivers entered the exciting championship and each race featured many great battles right through the field.
