Superleague

The 2003 Superleague season was the fourth GPVWC Superleague season. It was to be the first year in which Geoff Crammond's GP4 was used.

2003 proved to be a very uncertain season season for the league, which saw the league come to the brink of extinction after the second race of the season. However Italian William Ponissi stepped in and managed to save the league, which was renamed as F1VWC and had Andy Graydon installed as the league manager. Nevertheless several teams had withdrawn and numbers dropped significantly in the mid-season, but they gradually recovered as the new league picked up a number of teams and drivers in the wake of the collapse of the rival SFO league.

Ultima Racing started the season as Down Racing, but rebranded part way through the season.

New entries

Unexpectedly and controversially, Ultima Racing was expelled from the league with only two races remaining in the season. The announcement, which came as a surprise to manager-driver Mal McKee, was made on the 15th of September, the day before the Italian Grand Prix race session. The league had been considering an increase in membership due to the interest shown by several drivers of rival league SFO. Ironically, McKee had been having trouble attracting reliable drivers and had to resort to attempting to race himself despite having a busy schedule that year. Inexplicably, despite the imminent influx of drivers from SFO, a decision was made to eject Ultima from the league.

The same day was announced that a team called NWO Motorsport may be next in line to enter the league. NWO had previously been ejected from the SFO league. The following day the announcement was made, and NWO took over Ultima's assets, including their Ferrari contract, in a forced buy-out. While co-manager/driver Matt Hunt raced in the US Grand Prix, co-manager/driver Jim Moir failed to race. After the US Grand Prix, Hunt announced his retirement and Moir re-branded NWO as Vedder F1 and enlisted Adam Fretter as a driver for the team. Neither driver raced in the final event in Japan, however.

Four days after the last race of the season, Moir announced that Vedder F1 would not be taking part in the 2004 season, allowing Ollie Woods to enter his team Woods Racing for the next season.

Although no press announcement was made, McKee retired from sim-racing at this point, though he was to return to the league at the start of the 2005 season, being signed for Synergetic to compete in the Supercup.
